Fuse Beads Ironing for Smooth Pieces
Simple ironing steps for parchment, even heat, and flat cooling.
Ironing is the make or break moment. If you rush, you get bubbles or warping. If you go steady, you get a smooth, sturdy piece.
Use parchment paper
Use parchment paper to protect Perler beads. It keeps the iron from sticking and spreads heat more evenly across the surface.
Apply even heat
Apply even heat until beads fuse evenly. Move the iron in small circles and do not press too hard. Watch for the beads to soften and the holes to shrink a little.
Cool under a flat weight
Cool under a flat weight to avoid warp. A heavy book or cutting board works fine. Leave it there until the piece is fully cool.
Extra smooth tip
If you want a really polished finish, flip the piece and iron the other side briefly. Use fresh parchment and light pressure.
